Moon Machines

This documentary is about the importance of the different tools and ideas that got the man to the moon, the challenges that the engineers faced while developing everything needed for the Guidance System that the MIT created. Overall it is amazing to see everything that can be accomplished with technology and at that time it is crazy to think that the man got to the moon with tools less capable than a smartphone nowadays.

This documentary shows the importance of software systems in the accomplishment of getting the man on the moon but if you think a little more, it shows the importance of software on our daily lives and it makes you think on how software could save lives, not only in going to the moon but in hospitals for example.

The process of programing in the documentary was complicated and difficult, punch cards had to be used and code had to be written by hand! Imagine the time it would take to develop an app in those days? This is mainly the reason why engineers had to give basically their lives to their projects, and in this case it shows the importance of managing to get the man into the moon no matter what it took. An important part of the documentary is the one in which the shuttle sends warnings of an error and no one knew what was happening, and when the problem was discovered it was amazing to the engineers to find that even though there was an issue with the programming, it was solved by the programming itself by stop tasks with less priorities so that it could accomplish the goal of getting to the moon. This documentary is just one great example on the importance of computers, engineers in making history and why it is important to never give up.
